Really, just stop and think

Has it ever crossed your mind that maybe you aren’t appreciative of the life that you hold? Or that maybe you actually are better off then most? Not only are we lucky to have a roof over our heads, clean clothes to cover us, warm food on our table and a healthy heart, but also, we are very fortunate with the emotions that we live with. We don’t have to live with the nagging question that asks how much worse tomorrow shall be, but of how much better it shall be.

A few days ago I was forced to make a decision that will effect the rest of my life. Being one that does not suit well with change, i became upset. Tears swelled my eyes and I couldn’t get my mind off of it. But then it hit me. I realized that everyone has those bad days, those days where you wish it was all just a horrible dream. I knew if a person that suffered with cancer had the chance to take a pill and heal, that they would in a heartbeat. I knew if a person that had no where else to live but on the streets had the chance to be welcomed into a strangers home with open arms, they’d except it with a positive attitude to the world for the rest of their life. And compared to other humans’ problems, mine was so immature. To sob over something that will just tweak my life a bit was disgusting when you look at the world and see all the poverty, all the incurable diseases, and all the frowning faces.

We may have some pebble along our path of life, but most of us don’t have to walk along with boulders.

Monkey Pocks

Zoonotic Disease, that once originated in animals, have now been mixed in with our humanity. A women, named Coey, in Loga, Africa caught this disease and is now isolated from her village. Her body covered with blemishes and boils from her face to her feet must be treated daily. Others must stay at least three to four meters away since you can catch this incurable disease by simply touching a surface. Silently she must sit for the rest of her days until a medican for Monkey Pock is discovered.

A Success In Progress

So, for school I have to write a mini post that has one hundred and fifty characters at the max, which will be extremely hard for me since I tend to drag on with my posts. Once I start writing it’s hard to stop me. Well here goes.. :]

-

I have recently come across a post edited by a young, new blogger. His name is Nathan Lloyd and by simply reading his first few posts I can expect great things from him. His first poem, called Charades, tells a short story about meeting a girl. His detailed work can put a short film like image in your head or maybe even compare to a time in your life. Please take a quick glimpse at his superb poetry.

-

I failed. haha.

Blogging Friends

In the past week or so I have read a few blogs from some kids in Canada. Not only are they learning how to make their own mini animated videos, but also are coming up with ideas for their own books and making a hand drawn cover for them. But one child stood out to me though, Michael T. He took some of the simplest topics and with his writing they turned into a masterpiece of thoughts. His influential words open new doors to a readers mind and from there great things can occur.

One post that he wrote has still wandered my thoughts daily and I thought, why not spread his knowledge and wisdom? Blogging Friends are, as Micheal put it, people who have an utterly amazing blog friendship. For me personally, Nadine has been a true inspiration. The comments she leaves talk about what you wrote about in your post, which proves she actually read it instead of just skimming. Her words can lift a drooping soul. Other then being a great blogger, she is also a great teacher and supporter. Nadine has helped me improve my writing in so many ways and was willing to give her opinion on my school project. And this is just scratching the surface.

If you’ve never heard of Nadine or Michael T. please go check out their blogs, you’ll be glad you did. :]

Three, Two, One Post It.

This is the blog I wrote especially for the far away class in Australia. It will include three activities or events I enjoy to do during school, two of my favorite subjects and why, and one thing I would change about my school. Here goes..

Friends are the reason I wake up and drag myself out of bed everyday. They would have to be the number one reason why I attend school. I absolutely love socializing with them because they make everything funny. They’re like the thin streams of sunshine that manage to get through the thick, dull clouds on a rainy day. Another class I love is art. Art, music, photography, and writing are my passion and I wouldn’t want it any other way. And, as strange as it is, my third favorite part of school is walking in the halls. I get to walk and shout my friends’ names when I see all their faces as they wave and scream “sarahhhh!” back at me. Math would be my favorite subject. I get math, I understand almost everything about it. Yes, you can call me a number geek (: Next, it would have to be a tie between language arts and social studies. Both has the pluses and negatives. I totally stink at grammar, but I love writing. I can’t remember historical facts in social studies, but I love how unique Mr. Bogush has made out class. Finally, the one thing I would change about school; I think we have too many sport teams and not enough chooses for the creative characters around my school. I wish we had an art team because some of us don’t get challenged enough during our art classes. Sometimes, the projects are so simple you might not even bother to think about creativity. An art team would include those amazing free hand drawers, talented photographers, sculptors, writers, musicians, and all the rest. They all express emotion, and emotion is beautiful.

A Letter to John McCain

For class, we had to write a letter to the future president, Barak Obama, and tell him about what we feel is the most crucial thing that he should focus on. No ideas sparked in my head about him and what he should do because I know so little about him. So, I wrote to a person that I can connect to so closely, John McCain.

John McCain
241 Russell Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510Dear John McCain,

I am an eight grader that did not writing this letter to nag you about the loss in the election or bash the opposing candidate. I am here to say thank you. Thank you for sparking such an unknown interest in me. Prier to this I could have cared less about any debate on the television and groaned when anyone mentioned the word politics. But it all changed. I started listening to my dad as he talked about the election instead of tuning him out and started arguing with my peers as they took Obama’s side even though some of them didn’t have any cold, hard facts why, except for the obvious reasons like “share the wealth”. Gratitude is also owed to my teacher, Paul Bogush, for expanding our knowledge on politics instead of just agreeing with who our parents supported. He taught us to have our own opinion and without your inspiring words it would have just been like any other dull social studies class. Some memorable moments were created that would not have been experienced if it wasn’t for you.

The memories are fresh in my mind. We were all sitting in class watching your television commercials compared to the ones Obama was showing. But there is one that constantly flashes back into my thoughts daily that brought a tear to my eye. Looking into the little girls eyes and showing bombs exploding in her pupils. It proved what would happen if the people elected Obama. Another one of your commercials stated all the problems that we have in this hectic world and how you have the power to fix them all. All your commercials were so heartrending and your words actually meant something. They where more then just images and words pasted together, they were the truth.

You taught not only myself, but many other adults and children out there that you more then just a man wanting to fulfill a dream. You are a soldier willing to risk your life to keep the citizens of the United States safe. You are a man that has had to experience the daily struggle of not knowing what tomorrow will bring. You are a hero, Mr. McCain, no matter what the articles in the newspaper or statements on the television say. Like when you presented a speech in New Hampshire and a man stated Bush’s thoughts about staying in Iraq for fifty more years and you said “Maybe one hundred.” An uproar was cased by that statement, but people don’t understand your real plans for Iraq. Yes, one hundred years in Iraq as long as our troops are not being injured or harmed or wounded or killed. The purpose is to help stabilize a country were Al Queada is training people every day. You taught us to fight for what we believe in when you continued on with your campaigning while everyone kept throwing that statement up in your face. You never gave up on your dream, you fought through it with the same hopeful faith that millions of others have for you.

In the matter of a few months I have learned so much and that is all because of you. Thank you. Thank you for taking the time to hear from one of many children that have their own view on politics. And thank you for being the truly inspiring person that you are. I will always look up to you. We, as the people, will always look up to you.

John McCain, a future hero.

orangepinapple.jpg picture by LMAOxSarah

I will be supporting John McCain in this upcoming election.
I’m supporting him simply because he is a republican. In my eyes, democrats want to push tiny problems and responsibilities to the government. Republicans, on the other hand, are willing to take up the challenge of leading their own lives even if it means falling we are willing to pick ourselves back up. As I walked down the street I saw many “Vote Obama!” signs and thought about how many people are thinking about taking the easy way out. Farther down the street, near the gazebo, I saw a huge John McCain sign and around it was a crowd of republicans. Some were old and some were young, but they were all standing together; they are fighting together. They are making a choose to led their own lives because they know if we let government control our rights we might as well let them control our freedom as well. John McCain believes in a pro-growth, pro-jobs strategy to get our economy back on track by creating more jobs for unemployed people. He is going to “preserve and protect” the lives of American citizens like a good president should by using his knowledge from combat to help strengthen our armed forces. Also, he will make sure family dreams of buying a dream house are not crushed by incorrect mortgages.

You should not discriminate John McCain over his age or applaud his apposing candidate over his race. Both are equal. John McCain is just trying to fulfill his dream whether he is young or old. John McCain is our future hero.

Poverty

Poverty…

Let me ask you a simple question; what is it? It’s a thing that everyone knows about, but not many understand. It’s a daily struggle to survive. It’s a question asking what tomorrow may bring. It’s like a disease that can only be cured by hard work and luck.

By the time you went into kindergarten you knew there were people without shelter, without food, without clothes to keep them warm, but you didn’t worry about it because you were only five or six years old and too young to understand. We don’t understand simply because we are not going through it. But to this day, people know that there are others living horrible lives yet some of us let it slip our minds. You can do something to help. I am and it’s called www.socialvibe.com. There are many causes that you can fight and raise money for. Some of the causes are poverty related while others are just lending an extra hand. Socialvibe is free, so a few simple clicks can change a person’s life.

One hundred thirty-four children between the ages of seven and eighteen have never been to a school. That is poverty. Six million children under the age of five die every year as a result of hunger. That is poverty. Ninety-two percent of the fourteen million children that were born with HIV or AIDS are living in Africa. That is poverty. Measles, malaria, and diarrhea are three of the biggest killers of children even though all are preventable or treatable. That is poverty. About one hundred seventy-one million children have to suffer and work in hazardous conditions. That is poverty and it can be stopped.

About Me

One fact that most people don’t know about me is that I strive to be different because normal people bore me. I view myself as a deep human being with a unique passion for art and diversity, and if that is unnoticed then they clearly don’t know me well enough. When others ask me about my personality and the way I act I tell them the cold, hard truth, because if I tell them anything else but the truth, I would just be lying to myself. I view the world in strange ways, I write poetry about events or feelings that only I would comprehend, and I strongly believe that if the individuals of the world try hard enough that one day the world will finally be at peace.

Even though I am only at the age of fourteen I know a lot about life. I know to be thankful for what I have even though it might not be so great at times. I know that somewhere out in the world there is a child without parents, a child that doesn’t have as well of an education as I do, some that might not even have a roof over their heads nor clothes on their backs, but I have all those wonderful things. If I could I would call that number on the television that pops up, and send that thirty dollars ever month to give another human that as the same rights and same dreams as me, just to make them happier and smile a little bit more in their lives. The greatest feeling is when you make a difference for the better. When I am old enough and ready I am going to adopt a child because I don’t see the point of bringing another life into this hectic world when there are some that deserve a better life. I would care for that child like it was my own, because I know what it feels like to lack being loved at one time or another.

My home life can be a riot and a bit chaotic periodically, but I have met some magnificent people to help me get through it all. There is one person that I think of when i hear the word hero. They enter into my mind in a blind of an eye. That person would have to be my dad. He always puts his loved ones before him. When I am sad he comforts me as much as a father could help his teenage daughter. After a tight bear hug I would look into his eyes and they would scream, “i am sorry you have to go through this!” In a sixth grade heroes report I wrote about my dad and how much I would miss him if anything was to ever happen to him. I described him as an angel without wings and to this day I still stand behind that. I have another hero that I never expected to end up being one of the few people I would die for. Never did I anticipate such a connection with this inspiring person. It was more then just a student to teacher friendly acquaintance, he was considered apart of my family. Mr Filipek is the only teacher I have ever felt completely safe to express my feelings to without being judged. The last hero that I will always have in my heart is truly my best friend, Curtis. Even though he lives in Canada, I tell him everything. He understands me like no one else does. I believe the reason we have such a sturdy bond is because he goes through the same pain. Curtis is like that only guy that walks into your life when the rest of the world walks out and for that he will always be like a brother to me. I had to talk about these three genuinely big hearted people because without them I would be missing a little piece of me.

As you already have read, I love art, writing, and basically anything that can get my creativity level up. I write from the heart, but even though I write so much I am not a good speller at all. Spelling would probably be one of my main weaknesses. Another bad habit that I sadly have is that I am a procrastinator. I wait for everything last minute which is why I think last year was a total failure. Last year I focused on less important things like then school which is why I am more determined to be a success this year. If I am forced to do something then I wont put my all into it. Since I like more hands on activities, in the future I am planning on being either a photographer or a teacher of some sort. I would like to be a photographer because I refuse to go through life unnoticed. I want my photographs to mean something, not just some random photos of a model sitting there smiling. Last of all, my most recent achievement is that I have finally come out of my shell and ready to show the world what I am capable of. I am going to be an individual, I am going to stand out and be proud of my work, but most importantly I am going to do it now, not tomorrow.

09.11.01

From watching a peaceful sunrise on an early September morning quickly took a dreadful turn to endless sobs. Imagine yourself on a plain heading home from a stressful business having to call your seven year old child and explain to them that you aren’t going to make it home tonight and listen to your loving wife’s sniffles while you know tears are pouring down her cheeks. Imagine yourself turning on the news and unsuspectingly gasping over the life of a dear friend. Imagine yourself walking up to honking cars getting ready for a fulfilling day of work and then in the blink of an eye erasing all your plans for the future. At 8:46 AM thousands of hearts were crushed; not only the victims, but of all the people that who’s lives were changed by this attack… everyone’s heart was crushed. Not yet recovered from the first trauma, seventeen minutes past and United Airlines Flight 175 took a hard hit into the south tower of the World Trade Center. By this time there was no hope left for the survival of anyone in those two skyscrapers. There was nothing you could do except watch as people scurried away from the tumbling buildings. You could see people helping strangers they have never even met. People pulling people under their wing both hoping for a chance to escape the grime, dirt, and dust.

Those weren’t the only two attacks made on September 11, 2001. At 9:38 AM American Airline Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon. Two thousand eight hundred twenty-three people killed in the Twin Towers. Another one hundred eighty-nine people killed in the strike of the Pentagon. This heartrending dismay seemed like it occurred yesterday, is still fresh in our minds and hearts after the passing of seven years.
